Mandatory Insurance Review Committee

The poultry boards and commission have established a Mandatory Insurance Review Committee to develop and implement a work plan to provide a process in keeping with SAFETI principles and BCFIRB direction to assemble information, conduct analyses, engage stakeholders and make recommendations to the boards and commission on the need to require producers to have disease insurance

Considerable time, energy and work has been undertaken by the poultry industry at the urging of government since the 2004 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak to identify, plan and implement measures to mitigate the risks of future AI discoveries. Subsequent discoveries in 2005, 2009 and 2014 have reinforced the need for the industry to have an effective risk mitigation strategy in place.
