I think the recommendation is good for the industry. This means there will be money to clean infected farms faster, and farmers can’t hold the industry at ransom by crying that they don’t have money for C&D. This will also provide a pool of money to clean unregistered farms who could hold up the process. The insurance company could also purchase supplies and equipment so the industry is ready for the next hit.
Considerable time, energy and work has been undertaken by the poultry industry at the urging
of government since the 2004 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak to identify,
plan and implement measures to mitigate the risks of future AI discoveries. Subsequent
discoveries in 2005, 2009 and 2014 have reinforced the need for the industry to have an
effective risk mitigation strategy in place.
